I am an avid reader of Frankie magazine and on issue #42 they provide a very simple recipe for poule a pot. I’m not one to go venture into unknown recipes like this often…but hey today I was feeling very adventurous.
While my poule a pot cooked I did some research and learned that true poule a pot is a little bit different from the one I made, but I think the frankie recipe is a good one to start with. In the online recipes they always use a whole chicken, and stuff it with breadcrumbs and vegetables. In my version, I only use chicken breasts, topped with onions, tomatoes, and bacon.
Assembling the food was very simple, the only difficult thing was waiting two hours for it to be cooked!
I accompanied my poule a pot with a few slices of bread, a spinach & lettuce salad and some mashed potatoes. So filling and delicious! I also had a little bit of wine to wash everything down (I used the same wine I cooked with!)
One neat piece of trivia is that Poule a pot is commonly eaten on Sunday afternoons (or so the site claims)….so it’s very fitting this was my delicious Sunday dinner.
I’m so glad I put my cooking hat on (figuratively speaking) and decided to go ahead with this recipe. From now on…lets try recipes that absoloutely terrify us!
